Haferland Week
Haferland Week is the most important event dedicated to promoting and preserving the cultural heritage of the Transylvanian Saxons. Every summer, the region stretching between Brașov and Sighișoara, known as “Oatland” (Haferland), becomes a vibrant space for intercultural dialogue.
The festival brings together the communities of Archita, Roadeș, Saschiz, Meșendorf, Cloașterf, Bunești, Homorod, Rupea, Criț and Viscri, opening the doors of traditional Saxon households and fortified churches to a diverse program of crafts, gastronomy, music and educational activities.
By promoting tourism and supporting the restoration of Saxon architecture, the festival serves as a driving force for economic, social and tourism development, helping to preserve the region’s identity while creating new opportunities for local communities.
The project is supported by strong partnerships between local communities, public institutions, cultural organizations and the private sector. Over the years, the festival has received the support of prestigious institutions and prominent personalities from Romania and abroad, including the Romanian Presidency, the Romanian Senate, the Romanian Royal Family, representatives of the German Federal Government, the German states of Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia, the Princely House of Liechtenstein, as well as internationally renowned figures such as Gheorghe Hagi and Nadia Comăneci.
Haferland Week is an invitation to discover, connect and engage in dialogue. Our heritage tells us where we come from. Connecting with others shows us how far we can go together.
The story of the 10 villages continues! In 2027, we look forward to welcoming you to our special anniversary edition.
